Gazprom, our main shareholder, is the company with the global ambitions.

Gazprom's strategic goal is to become a leader among global energy companies by developing new markets, diversifying business activities and securing the reliability of supplies. Space telecommunications, which are the activity of Gazprom Space Systems, are also inherently global.

Being the part of Gazprom Group, our company acts under the total corporate strategy. Gazprom Space Systems should provide the solution for technologic needs of the main shareholder, support it access to new geographical markets and at that be a profitable asset. 

Government mission:

To assist in keeping the entire information space of Russia and developing high-technology manufactures and services

Gazprom Space Systems is an element of the strategically important gas supply system of Russia, and it also provides services for the Russian government institutions, distributes national TV channels, participates in federal programs implementation.

The company plays the increasing significant role in keeping the entire information space of Russia.

Now the company makes it its one more significant mission – to assist in the Russian space industry revival based on new principles and new technology level. 

Social mission:

To assist in developing the equal conditions for everyone’s access to the information human resources, improving the life of the society and harmonious personal development

The remoteness from the information centers and telecommunication backbones are not the reason for the information inequality. Satellite telecommunications, independent of distances, natural conditions, infrastructure development extent, is a unique way to overcome such inequality.

STRATEGY

• To provide continuity and reliability of the operation of the Gazprom’s corporate communication network space segment

  The program of Gazprom’s corporate communication network development for the period from 2009 to 2014 provides for the replenishment and development of the Yamal satellite constellation by new satellites launch.

  It is supposed that in the interest of Gazprom up to 10 percent of new satellites capacity will be used. 

• To develop FSS operator business – key company’s business

  Gazprom Space Systems become a noticeable player on the FSS market. Its share on the Russian satellite capacity market is 20 percent.

  The company implements the program of replenishment and development of Yamal satellites constellation and by 2015 intends to increase its satellite capacity by four times. This will allow to increase Gazprom Space Systems’ share on the Russian market up to 30 percent.

  The company intends to expand the «geography» of its business (in the long term Gazprom Space Systems’ prospect is the whole Eastern hemisphere). The world market is ten times more capacious than the russian market, and, despite the tough competition with the global and regional operators, the company intends to be fastened on the markets behind Russia. The target ratio between Russian and international sales is 3:1. 

• To develop the company’s ground infrastructure in order to increase volume, range and quality of telecommunication services provided

  More than the third part of the current Yamal satellites capacity the company sells not directly, but through value-added services («point-to-point» links, VSAT services, broadcasting and Internet access), provided based on the ground infrastructure (teleports, satellite digital TV centre, communication networks in Russian regions). Thus, in Russia the company is not only satellite operator, but also network integrator and satellite services provider. Such approach allows the company to form and diversify the client base and thereby decrease market risks. In prospect, the share of services in the company’s whole business will keep the current level. 

• To create conditions for new business activities

  The company investigates prospects and probes the market for the new services (satellite broadband access, earth observation and aerospace monitoring).

  Taking into account that the infrastructure for new activities is very expensive, and markets aspects are not always obvious, the company follow low risks approaches for these projects: first, thorough feasibility study, then pilot projects and experimental workshops, and, finally, development of full-scale systems. 

• To expand resource potential for the company’s activity

  The availability of the attractive orbital slots is the necessary condition for function and development of a satellite operator. The company will continue frequency coordination activities. Such activity is necessary both for the company and for the protection of the Russian Federation national interests.

• To improve business structure

  The company will continue to improve its business structure in order to optimize business processes, increase the company’s capitalization and its attractiveness on the financial markets. The company still intends to implement projects under the principals of project financing. 

• To follow comprehensive approach for space projects implementation

  The construction of large space systems requires from the company to continue development of the principles, which it worked out during its history, and thanks to which Yamal system was created and now is successfully operating. Gazprom Space Systems in its activity follows comprehensive approach to implement such projects: first – idea, new technology development, then key elements design, arrangement of the financing, the system integration in cooperation with the space industry enterprises, and, finally, the system operation, space services provision, investments return and profit making.

  That is why Gazprom Space Systems will continue developing as a vertically integrated scientific and technical, manufacturing and operating structure. 

• To develop advanced technologies and to increase company’s scientific and technical potential

  Understanding that modern infrastructure and professionalism is the guarantee of successful business, the company will continue orienting to advanced space and communication technologies and attempt to increase the scientific and technical potential of its team permanently.
